Learn to Write and Code

Note:We have selected the four applicants for the intensive course. Due to popular demand, we are also running a community track of the same course in parallel. You can join our Slack to take part - you will follow the same syllabus but receive peer review and can partipate at your own pace.

  • What? A free, remote four week intensive course to learn writing or programming.
  • When? Starting 3 May 2021 and running for four weeks.
  • Where? Primarily on Slack, but with weekly Zoom calls - UTC +- 6 preferred.
  • Apply Here - we are accepting two writers and two coders into the first cohort.

Being great at writing and programming is one of the most valuable skills combinations of today's world. If you're good at one and want to learn more about the other, we have the course for you. At Ritza, a technical publishing house, our team consists of people who have expertise in both writing and coding and you will learn directly from them during this course.

This is a four week, intensive course, requiring at least 20h/week from participants. If you have writing experience, you'll be put in the coding track, and if you have coding experience you'll be in the writing track. It is fully remote, and mainly asynchronous, but we will meet once per week (probably at 16h30 UTC+2 each Monday) via Zoom. The rest of the course will take place in a Slack channel where you will post daily updates and give and receive help.

There will only be four people in total, two writers and two coders, so you will get a lot of 1:1 attention and help from our team as you progress.

The course is entirely free of charge, but this is its first iteration and there are only very rudimentary foundations. You will be helping us build this course for future cohorts, so you should be comfortable with rough edges (and in many cases, no edges).

Nearly everything about this course follows a 'learn-by-doing' strategy. You will learn to write by writing. You will learn to code by coding. It will be a grind and require a lot of dedication and energy from you. This is *NOT* a workshop style course where there will be a lot of talking, meetings, and reading third-party resources.

You can read more about the course at our GitHub repository or apply directly.
